Maryland and Johns Hopkins, long considered by many to be the best rivalry in college lacrosse, have unveiled a new rivalry trophy ahead of their meeting Saturday night, the regular season finale for both teams.
Dubbed “The Rivalry Trophy,” the hardware is crafted as a Maryland blue crab and weighs 25 pounds. It was built out of reclaimed wood from Baltimore and constructed by Sandtown Millworks, according to a release by Maryland. The trophy will be awarded to the winning team after each regular season match.
The two schools have more than over 100 times (exactly how many is a matter of debate between the programs), including 13 times in the NCAA tournament, with three of those matchups coming in the championship game.
