Maryland is considering firing football Coach Randy Edsall but has not settled on any timetable, a person with knowledge of the situation said Thursday. Speculation about Edsall’s job security has increased in the wake of consecutive lopsided losses, flagging home attendance and eroding support among donors.
The Maryland athletic department did not address the status of its football coach Thursday beyond issuing an endorsement that was tepid at best.
“Randy Edsall is our football coach and he will be on the sideline Saturday for Ohio State,” spokesman Zack Bolno said by telephone.
The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also indicated that the fifth-year coach may be losing support in his locker room.
