Maryland forward Robert Carter Jr. to declare for NBA draft

Junior forward Robert Carter Jr., on Thursday became the first of Maryland's underclassmen to announce his departure from school.

Carter will forgo his final season of collegiate eligibility to enter the NBA draft and plans to sign with an agent after helping the Terps win 27 games and reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003.

Carter, a transfer from Georgia Tech, earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention as a junior this season with the Terps. The Thomasville, Ga., native scored in double figures in 25 games in 2015-16 and led Maryland on the glass with 6.
