Following a career showing against Minnesota, Maryland football’s Wade Lees was named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week. It’s his second time winning the weekly honor.
The 30-year old Australian was called on to flip field position five times against the Gophers, averaging a career-best 48.6 yards a punt. Two of his five attempts traveled more than 50 yards.
Though punts are typically associated with failed drives and poor offense, Lees’ kicks against Minnesota came in a dominating 42-13 win. Lees’ first Punter of the Week selection came following last year’s Week 3 blowout loss to eventual national champion-UCF, during which Kasim Hill tore his ACL.
