For their roles in helping Maryland football beat Texas (again) on Saturday, Antoine Brooks Jr. and Jeshaun Jones were named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week, respectively, by the conference Monday.
Brooks, a junior nickel corner, was all over the field in the Terps’ season-opening win. He recorded 11 total tackles (seven solo) and a tackle for loss, but his performance will be remembered for the game-sealing, diving interception of Texas’ Sam Ehlinger with just over a minute left.
Brooks earned Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week after the Texas game last year, in which he returned a blocked field goal 71 yards for a touchdown.
