Maryland football’s Anthony McFarland named to Doak Walker Award watch list

Maryland football’s Anthony McFarland was named Wednesday to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back.

It’s the second award watch list appearance for McFarland this week, as the rising redshirt sophomore is also a summer candidate for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the country’s most outstanding player. Ty Johnson appeared on the Walker watch list each of the last two seasons.

As a rookie in 2018, McFarland set a Maryland freshman record with 1,034 rushing yards on 131 attempts. He surpassed 100 yards four times, highlighted by a 298-yard outburst against Ohio State — the second-highest single game total in Terps history.
