Maryland athletics will allow football student-athletes to return to campus for individual, voluntary workouts beginning June 15.
Maryland on Friday released its plans for a “gradual, phased approach for the safe return of student-athletes.” It will mark the first time student-athletes will be allowed back on campus since the coronavirus pandemic shut down universities across the country and subsequently forced the cancellation of college athletics seasons.
Football student-athletes may return to campus on June 8 for pre-participation medical screenings. The release does not include any plans for the return of student-athletes from other sports.
Under the plan, described as Phase 1, voluntary workouts will be held outside with a select number of sports medicine staff.
