Maryland football hires Matt Canada as offensive coordinator

Maryland football has hired former LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada to the same role, the school announced Tuesday night.

Canada, 46, will replace Walt Bell, who left his position last week to become the new offensive coordinator at Florida State. Maryland on Tuesday also added the title of co-offensive coordinator to wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, although Canada is expected to be the primary play-caller and coordinator for an offense that established an identity as an up-tempo spread attack during Bell’s two seasons in College Park.

It remains unclear how much the scheme will actually change under Canada, who has cultivated a pro-style system during his well-traveled career but is nonetheless considered a versatile assistant coach who is expected to tailor his playbook around the personnel that Maryland has on its current roster.
