PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Maryland men’s lacrosse team’s NCAA title drought began with an overtime loss to Cornell in the 1976 title game at Brown Stadium. Forty years later, this Terrapins team continues to look like the group that could end the spell, moving a step closer Saturday with a 13-7 victory over Syracuse in an NCAA quarterfinal at Brown Stadium.
The top-seeded Terrapins (16-2) are in the Final Four for the fifth time in six years under Coach John Tillman. They advanced to the semifinals next weekend in Philadelphia, where they will play No. 5 Brown, which beat Navy, 11-10, in the other quarterfinal.
