Maryland collapses late in Big Ten opener, falls to Michigan State

Entering this season, Maryland football coach Michael Locksley had been touting this iteration of the Terrapins as heavily reliant on a salty, experienced defense. That unit failed to live up to the billing against Michigan State on Saturday at SECU Stadium, allowing a scoring drive in the closing minutes that sealed a 27-24 loss in the Terps’ Big Ten opener.

Jonathan Kim’s 37-yard field goal with one second to play provided the decisive points for the Spartans, who had tied the score at 24 on a 77-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Chiles to Nick Marsh with 4:11 left.
