Maryland men’s basketball coach Mark Turgeon will not get much of an offseason.
Turgeon, who led the 27-9 Terps to their first Sweet 16 in 13 years, was named Wednesday as an assistant coach for the United States U18 national team. Turgeon will join Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie on the staff of Texas head coach Shaka Smart.
The 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship will be held July 19-23 in Valdivia, Chile. The top four teams will qualify for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship. Last summer, Turgeon served as a court coach at the USA Pan Am Games training camp.
