Maryland basketball’s Kevin Huerter on Tuesday was named one of 18 finalists to represent the United States in this summer’s U-19 World Cup.
The initial list of 28 names was released last week, but 10 players were cut after the team’s first three practices at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The final 12-man roster will be announced Thursday.
Huerter won gold at the FIBA Americas Championship with the U-18 team last summer—Maryland’s Mark Turgeon was an assistant coach—and while several of his teammates are currently preparing for the NBA Draft, Huerter would be one of the veterans on the U-19 squad.
