Maryland basketball’s Diamond Stone waived by Atlanta Hawks

Former Maryland center Diamond Stone was waived by the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, as first reported by the Atlanta Constitution-Journal.

Stone was acquired from the Clippers in a trade earlier this month and played for Atlanta in the Vegas Summer League, averaging nine points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He was on a guaranteed contract and figured to get an honest shot at playing time, but the Hawks apparently had other plans.

If Stone isn’t picked up by another NBA team, he’ll most likely return to the G-League, where he saw some action last year in between stints with Los Angeles.
