Maryland Basketball: Terps drop close affair to Spartans

Rebounding was the story against Northwestern and little changed against Michigan State.

Maryland basketball was beaten on the boards in a 74-65 loss. The Terps were outrebounded 43-35, including surrendering 17 offensive rebounds to the Spartans.

Guard Melo Trimble led the way for Maryland with 24 points (9-of-17), including 11 in the second half. Forward Robert Carter added 13 points and five rebounds for the Terps.

Maryland trailed 68-65 with 30 seconds left and had a chance to secure a rebound and have a chance at a game-tying three-pointer. However, forward Matt Costello pulled in an offensive rebound, which seemed to ice the game for Michigan State.
