Maryland basketball celebrated “Zaching Day” Monday in honor of Zach Lederer, a former team manager who died from brain cancer in 2014. He was 20.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman officially declared May 1 Zaching Against Cancer Day on Monday.
Lederer was previously diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 11. After beating cancer, Lederer went on to play high school basketball and eventually become a manager for Maryland basketball.
Lederer was diagnosed with brain cancer for a second time during his freshman year at Maryland.
