After a great start to the 2019 season, former Maryland baseball infielder and current Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe was named AL Rookie of the Month.
Lowe made the Rays roster out of spring training, and hit .289 with six home runs and 17 runs batted in in March and April. A 5-for-12 start in May has lifted his batting average to .304, including a go-ahead two-run blast in the ninth inning against the Kansas City Royals Thursday afternoon.
He also leads all American league rookies in batting average, home runs (7), RBIs (19), hits (31), runs scored (18), on-bade percentage (.
