Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon has been named an assistant for USA Basketball’s under-18 men’s national team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Turgeon will serve under Texas Coach Shaka Smart, who was pegged to lead the team this week. Connecticut Coach Kevin Ollie will also serve as an assistant. This marks the second consecutive year in which Turgeon will serve with USA Basketball after assisting as a court coach for the U.S. Pan American team’s training camp last summer.
Turgeon, who just wrapped up his fifth season in College Park with a 27-9 record and an appearance in the Sweet 16, will report for duty with the national team when training camp opens in June in Colorado Springs.
