The celebration began nearly three weeks ago on March 27, shortly after Maryland men’s basketball Coach Mark Turgeon and assistant coach Bino Ranson left the Milwaukee home of Diamond Stone. Turgeon and Ranson were pulled off to the side of the road when they received a text from Stone: “I’m going to commit.”
Turgeon asked him to which school, and soon the entire college basketball world knew. About 7:30 p.m. that night, Stone announced that he was committing to the Terps. The elation that Turgeon and Ranson felt in that moment was cemented on Wednesday, when Stone signed a financial aid agreement and formally joined the program.
