Kevin Willard played his hand, and it looks like a winning one

SEATTLE — Before this fickle time in the Maryland athletics department can qualify as a distraction, something would have to happen to actually distract Kevin Willard. Good luck with that. The drama hasn’t become a burden. It’s a weapon he now brandishes with hilarious charisma.

Athletic director Damon Evans left for SMU on Friday, a day after Willard said the quiet part out loud at an NCAA tournament media session. Willard, who is rumored to be a candidate at Villanova, remains in active pursuit of a better contract and enhanced resources at Maryland.
