Kevin Anderson has been hired as interim athletic director at Cal-Northridge

Three weeks after ending his six-month sabbatical and nearly eight-year tenure as Maryland’s athletic director, Kevin Anderson has agreed to serve in the same position on an interim basis at Cal-Northridge.

Sources with knowledge of the situation confirm the 62-year-old Anderson’s has taken the job. ESPN first reported the hiring.

Maryland president Wallace Loh announced Anderson’s departure April 13, nearly six months to the day that Anderson began what was called a “six month professional development sabbatical.” Anderson had more than 18 months remaining on his contract when he left.

Sources close to Anderson said that he agreed to a buyout on his $580,000 a year contract, and likely signed a non-disclosure agreement that prevented him from speaking about his situation at Maryland.
