Maryland cruised to a 41-14 win over Florida International in Miami on Friday night and has started DJ Durkin era 2-0. Here are a few takeaways from the win:
1. JC Jackson makes his debut. Maryland received word late Friday afternoon that Jackson’s “academic matter,” which had kept him on the sidelines for the season-opener against Howard, was cleared up and that he would be eligible to play against Florida International. He was inserted into the starting lineup his presence was felt immediately. He made a tackle on the first drive of the game and he was rarely tested in one-on-one coverage in the first half – although Florida International’s offense eventually started taking shots at the sophomore by the late stages of the second half.
