With time running out and Maryland men’s basketball clinging to a four-point lead, freshman Jalen Smith saved his best play for last.
With 57 seconds left, Delaware’s Kevin Anderson crossed over Anthony Cowan Jr. and charged to the basket for a layup. The ball never got to the rim. Smith swatted the ball away instantly, and Cowan corralled the rebound and hit two free throws to seal a 73-67 victory. Smith finished the night with 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, becoming the first player to have a double-double in his Maryland debut this century.
