Wallace Loh wants to make Byrd Stadium "Maryland Stadium." We think we can come up with a better name.
On Monday, University of Maryland president Wallace Loh recommended changing the name of the school's football stadium from Byrd Stadium to Maryland Stadium. While Harry Clifton "Curley" Byrd did much for the school in his role as president of the university from 1936 until 1954, he was also supported racial segregation and discrimination throughout his run at Maryland.
The recommendation by Loh, which will be considered by the University System of Maryland's board of regents on Friday, not only called for removing Byrd's name, but also suggested renaming the facility "Maryland Stadium.
