Maryland men’s basketball opted to avoid a long break in Big Ten play, taking on division II Wingate Friday at noon.
The Terps scheduled the Bulldogs quickly after Saturday’s contest with Nebraska was cancelled due to positive results by Tier 1 members of the Cornhuskers’ program. Doing so avoided a nine-day layoff between beating No. 12 Illinois and the next scheduled Big Ten matchup against Michigan on Jan. 19.
Point guard Eric Ayala remains out for Friday’s game, head coach Mark Turgeon announced Thursday. While he said that scripting isn’t something you’re able to do in basketball, this matchup should provide a chance for the younger members of the squad to get more playing time under their belt.
