The sounds of the Mike Locksley era at Maryland on Wednesday morning were a stark contrast to the pall that had descended over the Gossett Football Team House on Sunday evening after coach Randy Edsall's firing.
Thumping bass from on-field speakers broke through the cool autumn morning. Roaring shouts and cheers went up on the practice fields. Players jogged off the field laughing. Offensive linemen Evan Mulrooney and Ryan Doyle started chanting Locksley's name while he was meeting with reporters.
Such is life under an interim coach. Locksley said he has "zero expectations" about earning the full-time job when the season ends.
