After he was finished with a resounding college debut against Richmond last Saturday, Maryland freshman running back Ty Johnson returned to the sideline. He was met there by the team’s defensive line coach, Chad Wilt, who just smiled and told Johnson: “That’s how Mom feels right now.”
Johnson’s mother, Tracy, was among a large contingent of family and friends who made the trip to College Park for the opener, and they didn’t leave disappointed. Johnson finished with 83 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, displaying the kind of home-run ability that Maryland’s staff has raved about all offseason.
