“Finally” is a word Jakia Brown-Turner often uses to describe where she is this season. Finally wearing a Maryland basketball uniform. Finally playing for her “dream school.” Finally close enough for her family and friends to see her play in person.

It’s a fitting choice of words. The Oxon Hill native has long harbored visions of playing for the Terrapins after growing up 30 minutes from College Park and starring at Bishop McNamara. After a detour to North Carolina State, where she started 123 of 124 games and won three conference championships in four seasons, Brown-Turner is using her last year of college eligibility to return home and fulfill a childhood ambition.
