Four-star cornerback Tayvion Land committed to Maryland on Thursday night, giving the Terps their highest-rated pledge yet in the Class of 2019.
A standout at Bishop Sullivan Catholic — the same Virginia Beach school that produced current Maryland underclassmen Tyler DeSue, Tahj Capehart, and Brandon and Breyon Gaddy — Land chose the Terps over reported offers from South Carolina, Auburn and Virginia Tech.
The 5-foot-8, 166-pound Land initially committed to the Hokies in July 2016, as a rising sophomore, but reopened his recruitment less than a year later. Associate head coach and wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, a top recruiter in the Tidewater area, led Maryland’s pursuit of Land.
