As DJ Durkin trumpeted his vision for Maryland football last winter, the first-year head coach consistently identified the program’s ability to recruit the Washington area as a foremost priority. He often refers to the territory as Maryland’s “back yard.” It begins with DeMatha, which is only three miles from campus and gave Durkin yet another class of 2017 recruit on Sunday, with four-star offensive lineman Marcus Minor announcing his commitment to the Terrapins.
DeMatha has been established as an area powerhouse and football recruiting factory over the years, but it hasn’t always been a foregone conclusion that Maryland dominates recruiting at the Hyattsville school.
