No. 12 Maryland men’s basketball had four players garnered Big Ten yearly awards Monday — the most since 2015-16.
Jalen Smith was named First Team All-Big Ten by coaches and media and chosen to the Big Ten All-defensive team.
Smith, who was part of the 2018-19 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, was the team’s second leading scorer with 15.5 points per game on 53.8 percent shooting from the floor and conference’s second leading rebounder with 10.5 rebounds per game. He also added 2.4 blocks per game, which ranks second in the conference.
The sophomore notched 21 double-doubles this season, which leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth all-time in program history.
