Freshman defensive lineman Adam McLean, a top Washington area recruit who was considered a key to Maryland‘s recruiting efforts when he signed with the school in February, is no longer enrolled and has been dropped from the Terrapins roster due to an “initial NCAA eligibility issue,” a school spokesman said Friday afternoon.
McLean’s eligibility issue is related to academics and will bar him from participating this season, although it doesn’t necessarily close the door on a potential return to the school should he be re-enrolled in the future. A four-star recruit out of Quince Orchard High School, McLean was the program’s highest-rated prospect in the class of 2015 and a part of an area recruiting push referred to by the program as “The Movement.
