Former Maryland goalkeeper Zack Steffen has gone from stopping shots for the black and gold to stopping shots for the red, white and blue.
Steffen made his first start in goal for the U.S. national team against Paraguay Tuesday night, recording two saves in a 1-0 win. The former Terp made his national team debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina in January, and previously served as a goalie on the U-18 and U-20 national teams.
Steffen starred at Maryland in 2013 and 2014, playing every minute in goal both years. As a freshman, he helped led the Terps to an appearance in the College Cup final, where he was recognized as the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the NCAA Championship.
