Defensive back Sean Davis became the first Maryland player taken in the NFL draft when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the second round with the 58th overall pick on Friday night.
Davis spent the first three years of his Terps career as a safety before he moved to the outside as a cornerback in his senior year. Though he struggled at times in 2015, he tested well at the NFL scouting combine in February and impressed scouts and teams with his athleticism and versatility.
At Maryland’s pro day in late March, Davis said the position he projects to play at the next level is “pretty mixed” between cornerback and safety.
