Maryland’s guard rotation took a big hit on Tuesday.
Guard Dion Wiley had surgery for his torn meniscus and will miss the 2015-16 season. It was originally announced on Saturday that Wiley would miss an extended period with the injury.
The former Potomac (Md.) guard averaged 4.1 points-per-game and 1.5 rebounds-per-game as a freshman. Wiley was a four-star recruit at the Oxon Hill-based high school.
Wiley was expected to play a major factor in the Terrapins’ shooting guard rotation this season.
In last Friday’s exhibition game against Southern New Hampshire, coach Mark Turgeon gave Jared Nickens the start at shooting guard with former Duke star Rasheed Sulaimon coming off the bench.
