Brian Shaffer (North Harford) pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight as sixth-seeded Maryland ousted Indiana from the double-elimination Big Ten baseball tournament with a 3-0 victory Friday in Omaha, Neb. Marty Costes (Archbishop Curley) hit a two-run homer in the first inning. The win was the second of the tournament for the Terps (30-26) over the third-seeded Hoosiers (32-24). Maryland, which lost 4-3 earlier in the day to Michigan State (36-18), will face Iowa today at 10 a.m.
Jordan Zimmerman hit a game-tying homer in the sixth inning and drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth to lead the Spartans to victory Friday morning.
