Maryland freshman pitcher Tyler Blohm (Archbishop Spalding) was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-American. Blohm won eight games, tied for third all time in a Maryland season and tops among freshmen in the Big Ten. The Severna Park native had a 3.48 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 35 walks in 75 innings. The left-hander held opponents to a .227 average. He was honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was a two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection. Blohm, who was drafted last summer by the Orioles, set a career high with 10 strikeouts against top-seeded Nebraska in the Big Ten tournament.
