Maryland Coach John Szefc ran down the list of his team’s accomplishments on Saturday night, shortly after the Terrapins’s season ended with a bewildering 5-4 loss to Virginia. His team set the school record with 42 wins, he began. It played in the Big Ten Championship and won a regional tournament in California. It made a second consecutive Super Regional, afforded another opportunity to meet the Cavaliers in Charlottesville this weekend for the right to advance to the College World Series.
That accomplishment continues to elude Maryland. Szefc had difficulty explaining his team’s meltdown in the ninth inning Saturday.
