NEWARK — Maryland men’s basketball coach Kevin Willard was back in the building that’s the backdrop for many fond memories from his previous job. Sunday afternoon’s rousing comeback win against Villanova, fueled by Terrapins freshman standout Derik Queen, produced the latest bit of exhilaration for Willard at Prudential Center.
Queen’s two free throws with 19 seconds to play were the decisive points in a 76-75 win in the Empire Classic. The Terps, who were playing away from College Park for the first time, trailed by 13 early in the second half before the 6-foot-10 center took over; he finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
