Confidence key as Terps' Jared Nickens tries to emerge from shooting slump

There were times last season, when Jared Nickens was a freshman at Maryland, that neither he nor his coaches and teammates thought Nickens would miss a 3-point shot.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound wing shot a respectable 39 percent on 3-pointers, yet many were surprised his accuracy wasn't much higher.

The mechanics were usually perfect, the results often deflating to the opposition. Teams would gear up to stop senior guard Dez Wells and freshman point guard Melo Trimble, only to have Nickens bury a key 3-pointer.

Which made the shooting slump Nickens experienced during the first month of the Big Ten Conference season somewhat shocking.
