Anyone who cares about Maryland men’s basketball should know that its new head coach will attempt to ingratiate himself to everyone in College Park. He will pronounce the word humbled, without the “h,” to express gratitude for this job. He will kiss the ring of any Terrapin he deems a person of honor, whether Brenda Frese, Gary Williams or the polo-wearing team photographer who mostly works in the background. And he will praise the current state of affairs at Maryland as “attractive,” when the former head coach — or other potential candidates — might view it as unbearable.
Buzz Williams is a band-aid for Maryland. The wound remains.
