Becoming a leader the next step for Terps star William Likely

William Likely is supremely confident in his on-field skills and has the numbers to back it up.

But Maryland coach Randy Edsall said there's even more that the junior defensive back and special teams standout can contribute.

"The one thing that I thought was lacking a little bit from him being the complete player that I wanted him to be was the leadership part," Edsall said during this week's Big Ten Football Media Days at a Chicago hotel. "I told him that would make him a better player."

The cornerback from Belle Glade, Fla., was one of two Terps named first-team All-Big Ten selections last year as he collected 83 tackles (66 unassisted) and tied for the conference lead with six interceptions for 170 yards.
