Ball State’s Pete Lembo becomes third former head coach to officially join DJ Durkin’s staff at Maryland

Maryland football Coach DJ Durkin continued to fill out his staff on Tuesday, announcing the hire of Pete Lembo, who stepped down as head coach at Ball State to accept the postions of Terrapins assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.

Lembo, who spent five seasons at Ball State, becomes the third member of Durkin’s staff with previous experience as a head coach in the top-tier Football Bowl Subdivision. Earlier this month Durkin hired former Virginia coach Mike London as associate head coach and former Syracuse coach Scott Shafer as defensive coordinator. The Terps’ first-time head coach has also offered an unspecified position on his staff to Mike Locksley, Maryland’s interim head coach and offensive coordinator last season, though it is not known if Locksley has accepted the offer.
