Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, who sent a number of players to Maryland as coach of Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, will be joining DJ Durkin’s staff as a defensive backfield coach, a source with knowledge of the situation said Monday.
Abdul-Rahim, 38, is currently on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama, where he has worked the past two seasons as a defensive analyst and assistant director of player personnel. Abdul-Rahim coached at the Washington charter school for 10 seasons.
He is expected to play a large role in recruiting in the local area. It is further indication that former offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, who served as the team’s interim coach after Randy Edsall was fired, will not return.
