WVU holds off Herd 9-8

MORGANTOWN — Both times the West Virginia and Marshall and baseball teams played last season, the result was a one-run game with each side getting one win. When the Mountaineers traveled to Charleston earlier this month, they came away with a one-run win in 10 innings spread across 3 hours, 54 minutes.

When WVU manager Randy Mazey gave his team his final instructions before Wednesday’s first pitch at Monongalia County Ballpark, he issued a simple reminder. The game would be close, and it would not be easy. The message to his hitting coach, Steve Sabins, was a bit different.
