Marshall Women’s Soccer picked up its first win over the Belmont Bruins 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 1, and first win under new head coach Rafa Simoes after a late-game goal from junior transfer Angel Fowler.
Fowler was the first player Simoes signed when he took the helm in December. The new addition to the Herd proved fruitful in the matchup. Fowler scored in the 87th minute and broke the longstanding stalemate to give the Herd the late lead.
Both programs were engaged in a back-and-forth deadlock, with both goalkeepers making difficult saves.
Herd goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth tallied five stops and is now tied for fifth in program history in shutouts.
