PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame announced its class of 2017 on Wednesday, as chosen by the statewide Honors Court committee. Two persons with long-time ties to Marshall University Athletics were chosen in this year’s class, former Herd basketball assistant coach C.J. Woollum, who went on to greater fame at Christopher Newport before dying of cancer, and Jack Bogaczyk, who worked many years covering the Herd for the Charleston Daily Mail, as Director of Publications at Marshall Athletics and as Editor/Columnist for Herd Insider magazine, at herdinsider.com.
In 1977, Stu Aberdeen hit Huntington like a hurricane, shaking up the Veterans Memorial Field House and Marshall men’s basketball, but one of his best ideas was keeping a young assistant of former coach Bob Daniels in CJ Woollum.
