BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ryan Taylor drove for a layup with 3.8 seconds left to give Marshall an 87-85 victory over Texas-El Paso in the Conference USA quarterfinals Thursday night at Legacy Arena.
The Thundering Herd prevailed in a tense, fast-tempo game that featured 16 lead changes and 15 ties. MU reversed the result of the teams’ wild game in El Paso, which the Miners won 112-108.
Marshall (17-15) moves on to face Middle Tennessee State in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday. The Blue Raiders downed Charlotte in the earlier game Thursday night.
Taylor led the Herd with 21 points, followed by Austin Loop’s 18, James Kelly’s 13, Jon Elmore’s 12 and Terrence Thompson’s 11.
