Amid rumblings that the Capital Classic men’s basketball game is dead for the 2016-17 season, a state senator aims to keep the series going with some legislative muscle.
Sen. Michael Woelfel, D-Cabell, said he hears that West Virginia University is not renewing the series with Marshall.
“I would say the series is on life support,” said Woelfel, a Marshall undergraduate with a WVU law degree.
With that, Woelfel plans to introduce a bill in the upcoming legislative session that mandates a WVU-Marshall men’s basketball game. He says the game promotes good will among state residents and generates extra revenue for both schools.
