Southern Mississippi jumped to an early lead and then put the game away with nine runs in the final four innings to earn a 14-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Marshall in Conference USA baseball play Friday at Appalachian Power Park Friday. Marshall rebounded in the second game to notch a 10-8 win.
In the first game Dylan Burdeaux, Claudio Rubiera, Taylor Braley and Storme Cooper each knocked in a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles (15-5), while Luke Lowery earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief.
