Old Dominion rolls past listless Marshall, 38-14

NORFOLK, Va. — Between giving up an armload of big plays and offensive ineptitude, Marshall’s faint postseason hopes gurgled down the drain Saturday night in a 38-14 loss to Old Dominion.

Ray Lawry rushed for 209 yards, reeling off six double-digit runs. That included a 33-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that put the Monarchs up 14-0.

His rushing total almost outgained the Thundering Herd’s total offense, doing so before Marshall drove 70 yards for an inconsequential TD. The Herd finished with 214 total yards.

The Monarchs (6-3, 4-1), in their third year as an FBS program, became bowl eligible for the first time and sent the Thundering Herd (2-7, 1-4) to the postseason sidelines.
